The founding privilege granted by King Jaume II on 1 September 1300 led to the foundation of the Estudi General first centre of higher education or "hig education" founded in Catalonia and in the whole of the Hispanic territories of the Crown of Aragon where to teach Canon Law and Civil Law following the model of the General Study of Bologna.
The University of Lleida had its first Statutes, approved on 28th september 1300, considered the oldest in the Peninsula and the most complete of a european university.
